SHS were Invited to Participate in an Inclusive Boccia Event Organised by Nottingham City Council Sports Active department.

The date and place of the event was: Thursday 3rd April at, Harvey Haddon Sports and Leisure centre in Bilborough 10am – 12pm.  The event was for Key Stage 3 students and was attended by over ten mainstream and SEN schools from the city and Nottinghamshire. It was their largest Boccia event to date.

The students who represented Sutherland House School for this tournament were: Jacob Hunt-Oldham, McKenzie-Lee Hirst, Kurt Peck, Theo Ntege, Jake Bates- Higgins and Mylo Peak.   We were given red boccia balls with the aim of rolling them closest to the white jack whilst the other schools we played attempted to get their blue boccia balls either closer or knock the red ones out of the way.

Sutherland House School played six games of Boccia against the following schools with the results:

Sutherland House School 3 Oakwood (A) 5

Sutherland House School 3 Oakwood (B) 2

Sutherland House School 1 Minster School 4

Sutherland House School 0 Brunts School 4

Sutherland House School 1 Bulwell Academy (A) 2

Sutherland House School 2 Bulwell Academy (B) 3

This was the first time the students from class 7 have played a competitive game of Boccia in any tournament with other schools.   The students represented the school incredibly well and all enjoyed the experience.  The students displayed great teamwork and communication.   A special mention for Kurt Peck who played the shot of the tournament winning the game against Oakwood with the last throw of the ball.  High fives all round!

It is hoped that some of these students can participate in forthcoming KS3 indoor/outdoor athletic tournaments in the summer term.
