Students from SHS were invited to Trent Bridge cricket ground to learn how to play Table Cricket. This event was organised by the Inclusion team at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.
What is table cricket?
Table cricket is an adapted version of cricket, played on a table tennis table and specially designed to give young people with a disability the chance to play and compete in the sport.
How does it work?
This is a very strategic game! There are different scoring zones around the table and, just like in regular cricket, fielders must be carefully positioned to prevent runs or to get the batter out.
Teams of six take it in turn to bowl or bat, with the bowler using a ramp to deliver the ball (either a regular ball that runs true or a weighted one that swings around). The batter scores by hitting the ball into the scoring zones, avoiding the fielders if they can!
The first group who attended enjoyed learning how to play this inclusive game and it is hoped that we will purchase a table for school so that all the students can participate.
The students who attend these sessions will be given the opportunity of leading these sessions in Sutherland House School.
The participation at these workshops will be evidenced towards individual learning pathways in Physical Education of either: ASDAN, OCR Entry Level PE or PE Life Skills Award.
It is hoped that some of the students will form a team to enter at a County wide tournament on Thursday 4th December at Trent Bridge.
