Students represent SHS in indoor kurling tournament

IMGP0002

Four Sutherland House students represented their school in an inclusive indoor Kurling tournament run by Sports Nottingham.

On May 13, four students attended an inclusive kurling tournament at Harvey Haddon Leisure Centre in Nottingham, organised by Sports Nottingham.

Jacob, Kurt and Mckenzie from Class 7 and Ethan and Thomas from Class 10 wore red bibs and vests, playing four competitive games against other schools based in and around Nottinghamshire. The games were marshalled by Sports Nottingham and the staff from the local schools.

What is Kurling?

Kurling involves students aiming a handheld disc on three steel wheels at the target.  The rules of the game are to get your disc as close to the target as possible.  You are allowed to knock the other team’s disc out of the way if you can hit it!

Each game consisted of each player throwing a disc each, waiting in turn for the other team to throw their discs.  After all the discs are thrown the game is finished.  Scores are given to the team closest to the target. A new game will start, and the overall score is achieved when the buzzer sounds.

The Final Scores

Match 1:

Sutherland House School              2              Christ the King A               2

Match 2:

Sutherland House School              3              Christ the King B               2

Match 3:

Sutherland House School              2              NUSA                                    3

Match 4:

All the students demonstrated enthusiasm and great effort during each event.  The experience was extremely positive, and all the students appeared to enjoy this well organised inclusive event.

The standout moment was when Kurt won two games in quick succession for us to beat Christ the King in the second game.  All the students demonstrated great accuracy with the discs and good sportsmanship throughout the game.
