Students perform 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' for Royal Shakespeare Festival
July 10, 2026
Students at Sutherland House School recently took part in a performance of the famous Shakespeare Play, A Midsummer's Night's Dream, for the Royal Shakespeare's playmaking festival.
Full of frolicking fairies and hijinks, students amazed in their fairy costumes, devoting many hours to rehearsals and performed on stage alongside several other schools from Nottingham.
For some students, it was their first time on stage and for others it was the second-year running.
Speaking about the experience, Art & Design Teacher Lesley Gennard said:
Working on A Midsummer Night’s Dream has been a wonderful journey for our students. Through a sensory approach, they have explored objects, created props, and worked together to bring Shakespeare’s magical world to life. Students have enjoyed discovering the play through touch, sound, movement, light and imagery, allowing Shakespeare’s words and ideas to be experienced in meaningful and engaging ways.
The rehearsal process has encouraged creativity, collaboration and imagination, with every student contributing to the development of the performance. For some students, this is their first time performing on stage, while for others it is their second experience as part of the Playmaking Festival. We are incredibly proud of our students and all they have achieved. This project has shown that Shakespeare can reach every learner when explored through a rich and sensory experience.
